Oath Complete

Warning, crappy photography of freshly varnished miniatures ahead.

A little closer to the deadline than I'd like, but I got everything done.
I should go back and retake this one. The bloodletter's sword in particular was my first real try at any kind of blending, and it turned out ok.
The hill and spiders, sans adventurers. I couldn't pick a pattern I liked for the other three spiders, so I just went with some yellow stripes.

Crunch Time

I haven't had a whole lot of time lately to work on things, so with 10 days left in the month, it is time to pick up the pace.

My phone camera doesn't do macro shots well. So here is where the hill is so far. Not a whole lot left to do, just some touchups on the chest and painting the bone bits.
The three "heroes" of the hill diorama. The bronze on the dwarves is just a base color, they will be getting layers of other metallic colors to set them apart from each other.
The "diablo day" bonus Bloodthirster is probably the most close to done. Just the sword, his base, and some highlights left to go. I'm going to try something like this for the sword.

Diablo Day

So there is a special contest thing for anyone that adds a demon of some sort to their oath today, "Diablo Day."
Figured it was as good of a time as any to figure out what color scheme I want to use on my bloodletters.
Here is where things are with the rest of the oath. Still a long way to go, with half of the month left.

A little work on a spider

Started on one spider, not sure if it is going to be the "boss" spider for descent, or one of the standard ones.
Color is based on the Red Headed Mouse Spider.

Drybrushing and more progress

Slow painting week. I covered everything in a wash to darken it, and then started drybrushing some Khemri Brown.
My primer doesn't like to stick to the spiders from Descent. Maybe it is the kind of plastic they use?

Primed

I was unhappy with the porous look of the foam, so I added a lot more spackle and primed it this weekend. Also added are a few bits on top of the hill for flavor.

Bugs and Spackle

To non-permanently attach the spiders to the hill, I skewer them with mighty rods of steel drill a little hole and insert a bit of wire and glue. The wire will be trimmed to length later.
I build up the hill with a bit of wood putty, especially around where the bases for the miniatures will be, to make a more seamless transition from miniature to diorama.
A closer idea to the final product.

May Oath

Mystery Dwarves, a LotR Elf, and some Descent Spiders, all on a foam rock.
Here is my oath for May, a little different than my usual Warhammer 40k stuff.

Kaptain's Log - May: "The Trouble with Tau Castes"

The Orkerprise had been ordered to respond to a Tau distress signal close to da Newtrall Zone. Upon discovering they were about to be 'rescued' by orks, the Tau commander boldly ordered all hands into the escape pods and launched them into the ork hull undetected. The plan was to begin a series of commando raids from inside the walls of the Orkerprise, but a few were detected by Kurk.

"If dey're in the walls dey could get into da fungus storage bays! We've gots ta krump every last fing in dere before its too late!"

Opening the compartment to climb into the storage bay, a pile of dead tau bits fell down on him in a bloody shower. It seems the Tau had interrupted Cybok's pet squigs snack time...

Your troops aren't marching in parades all day. They're out fighting on dusty, dirty planets, getting covered in blood and worse! This month's theme is weathering and/or 'splatter'! Dirty the hell out of your guys, rust them up, or coat them in the blood of their foes. Now some of you might think this is a little similar to last month's theme if you rusted up your guys for 'damage' and that's why I put these two months back to back. I want to see some creativity and have you do something different from your last month's theme.
